Research seminar: 'A research journey through time and space'
05 May 2017
The presentation, 'A research journey through time and space', takes place on Friday, 12 May at 1pm, in room MSB.1.05.
Professor Israr Qureshi’s research is focused on sustainability and its impact on businesses and society. He is currently involved in several research projects investigating social value creation through social entrepreneurship, and ICT for sustainable development.
Professor Qureshi's says his desire to make a positive contribution to society - particularly poor, marginalised and disadvantaged communities - has inspired him to understand sustainability and pressing social issues from theoretical and practical viewpoints.
He began to appreciate how business approaches and models, if implemented with the philosophy of ‘first do no harm’, can leverage technology to address some acute social issues through social value creation.
Through his research, Professor Qureshi says he has learned that socially oriented organisations, such as social enterprises, have very different goals, motivations, and approaches compared to typical for-profit organisations,.
"Many of the mainstream organisational theories in their current forms are inadequate in explaining organisational activities and processes in the base of the pyramid contexts," he says.
