The New York Times has mentioned Waikato's globally recognised communications degree in an article about the meteoric rise of NZ Labour Party leader Jacinda Ardern; it's even been dubbed 'Jacindamania'.

The 37-year-old Ms Adern completed a Bachelor of Communication Studies (BCS) at Waikato Management School in 2001, majoring in Public Relations and Political Science.

If her party wins the General Election on 23 September, she would become New Zealand's youngest ever prime minister - and its second elected female prime minister.

Waikato's Bachelor of Communication Studies is the only public relations degree in New Zealand or Australasia that is certified by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), which sets the global standards for the PR industry. This recognises the outstanding quality of teaching and student experiences that we offer our BCS students.

Waikato's PRSA certification was renewed in July 2016 for another six years, until 2022.
