PR students in the media spotlight
05 September 2017
This week some of our Bachelor of Communication Studies and Public Relations students are having fun in the TV studio on campus - both behind and in front of the cameras.
It's all for the second-year paper 'Media and Public Relations' (MCOM235), which prepares students for the reality of being interviewed by journalists when a company hits the news headlines.
Depending on the story, PR professionals could be required to train their CEO in handling difficult questions from the media to protect the company's reputation, in the event of an unexpected issue or crisis. In some circumstances, they might be asked to step up on behalf of their organisation and speak to the media themselves.
The paper covers the principles and skills of managing ethical and sustainable relationships with media professionals. It includes writing for news media, working with social media and interview skills for media conferences and television appearances.
Next year, the paper has been renamed 'Media Relations and Publicity', and it has a new paper code, PUBRL201.
